$500 Available to ALL Boulder Residents

Boulder County has announced a brand new rebate program to encourage its residents to protect their homes and community from wildfire.

The program is open to all county residents who are taking steps to improve home hardening and defensible space to reduce the potential for wildfires spreading. This new program provides a rebate of up to $500 to those who own or rent a home in Boulder County.

You are eligible for the rebate if you complete one or more of the following mitigation actions:

  • Removing juniper bushes

  • Replacing the first five feet around the perimeters of a home with noncombustible landscaping material

  • Replacing fencing attached to a home with a noncombustible material

  • Screening vents on a home with a 1/8-inch mesh or replacing them entirely with flame-resistant vents

Noncombustible landscaping material includes gravel, granite, or other rocks to prevent embers from igniting flammable material adjacent to your home. Removing juniper bushes from your property is especially important during fire season due to how dense the plants are. Embers can easily ignite juniper bushes due to their ability to retain dead leaves and branchlets that can ignite when dry. These bushes also contain volatile oils that burn hot when ignited. When it comes to flame-resistant vents, look for soffit vents, gable vents, foundation vents, and dormer vents. Look out for vents that make use of fiberglass or plastic meshes, which are both prone to melting. Corrosion resistance and noncombustible metal meshes are very important as long as they are between 1/8 inches and 1/16 inches. Larger meshes (1/4 inches or more) is far less effective at keeping embers out. If interested in any of the four listed wildfire mitigation actions, please reach out to us via phone or email and we’ll get you a free quote. Making use of this rebate paired with Income 65 can provide you with over 50% off of risk mitigation services we offer (not including the additional discounts we offer).

Keep in mind, for your mitigation work to qualify for this rebate, the work must be completed after June 18, 2024. Colorado’s wildfire season lasts from May through September, a total of 78 days longer than what it used to be in 1970. While we can’t stop the cause of wildfire right now, we are more than dedicated to providing the best, affordable, mitigation services to protect your property.
